Aloha UHPA Members,

I am writing to express my gratitude to the University of Hawaii Professional Association Political Endorsement Committee and the Board of Directors for their support in my campaign for State House District 23.

After going door-to-door in Manoa, many in the district are looking for a different choice, and do not believe that Isaac Choy represents them.

This dissatisfaction stems from Choy’s stance against marriage equality, which is a civil rights issue that I know also resonates deeply with the membership of UHPA.

However, it is Representative Choy’s support for the pension tax that is also causing other members of this small community to question the direction the district has taken.

Isaac Choy did not merely vote to tax pensions, Choy created the pension tax policy while he served on the Tax Review Commission.

This tax on pensions would disproportionately affect the members of UHPA members who already suffer from the lack of adequate housing, and lower salaries when compared with similar positions they could have taken on the mainland.

Should I be elected I hope that UHPA will help guide me to make decisions that make Manoa a better place.

Mahalo,

Nathaniel Kinney
